Major Projects

Qatar is home to many world-class entrepreneurial, residential and social development projects. From state-of-the-art oil and gas facilities to some of the top universities in the world, Qatar proves to be an ambitious and forward-thinking nation.

Ras Laffan Industrial City

Strategically located on major international shipping routes in northeastern Qatar, Ras Laffan is home to energy companies ExxonMobil, Shell, Dolphin Energy, Qatargas and RasGas.


RasGas is a world-class liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, operated by Qatar Petroleum and Exxonmobil. It hopes to supply 30% of the world’s LNG by the end of 2010.

Education City

Under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Education City offers university-level courses in design, arts, languages and sports. It is dedicated to the higher education and development of Qatari and Middle Eastern citizens.

New Doha International Airport

The airport is scheduled to open in 2010 and will have the capacity to handle 24 million passengers and 750,000 tons of cargo annually. It is the first airport in the world built to house six Airbus A380-800 super jumbo jets, and boasts an adjoining regional pioneering aviation center. Space is also reserved for business and retail outlets, hotels and a free trade zone.

Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Bridge

The Bridge is due for completion in 2013. Spanning more than 40 kilometers from Qatar to Bahrain, it will be the longest marine causeway in the world.  With twin carriageways, it will provide crucial rail and road connections between the two Gulf countries.

Doha Expressway

This project links southern Qatar to the north of the state through the capital city of Doha.  It is part of a five-year plan to modernize the road network to accommodate urban growth.

Doha Convention Center and Tower

The impressive Doha Convention Center and Tower soars 105-storey high, with breath-taking panoramic city views from its central location on the Corniche. It houses a 300 guest-room hotel, 80 serviced apartments and 300 residential apartments.

National Railway System Project

The Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Germany-based Deutsche Bahn to develop Qatar’s planned railways into a comprehensive and consolidated railway system. The plan includes passenger and freight railways between Qatar and Bahrain.

The Pearl – Qatar Project

The Pearl is a stunning man-made island covering 400 hectares of reclaimed offshore land, planned as a Riviera-style retreat. Its ten districts include beachfront villas, luxury town homes, apartments and penthouses, an upscale retail and dining area, five-star hotels, marinas and schools. The Pearl – Qatar Project is the first in Qatar to offer international investors freehold property.

Barwa Al Khor

This project – to be completed in 2015 – will include creatively designed villas, town houses, terraces, flats, a five-star and four-star hotel, luxury retail shopping and four premier schools. The project boasts a mosque and international golf course and is designed to supply five-star quality services to its residences.

Lusail City

Located on the coast 15 kilometrers north, Lusail is intended to be the ultimate in living experience for 200,000 people.  The project is scheduled to be finished in 2010. It includes island resorts, two marinas, residential and commercial areas, luxury shopping, two golf courses and an entertainment district.

Museum of Islamic Art

The largest dedicated Islamic art museum in the world features a large collection of artifacts. Designed by the legendary architect I.M. Pei, the museum sits proudly in the heart of Doha, against the picturesque Corniche. 

Qatar Entertainment City

Located in upscale Lusail, Entertainment City is a holistic family entertainment destination. It features restaurants, residential units, retail and international leisure activities. It is scheduled for completion in 2015-2016.

Twin Hotel Towers

The hotel is located in the marina district of Lusail. The hotel provides seven-star and five-star facilities on its top and bottom floors. Second tower apartments all face the sea. The tower also houses luxury shops, restaurants and a massive cinema.

Sports Museum

Expected to open in early 2011, the Sports Museum will focus attention on Qatari achievements in sport at GCC, international and Olympic levels. The layout includes an educational section for students and the Aspire Zone.
