MOTC Allows Maritime Vessels to Sail

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) has allowed all maritime vessels to sail effective from yesterday, 1 July 2020, within the framework of the second stage of the gradual lifting of the restrictions imposed due to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), provided that maritime vessels must be committed to having the capacity of half of permitted number of people; namely maximum 10 people, without complying with specific number of one family members.

It is reported that MOTC accredited last year Qatar International Safety Centre (QISC) specialized in maritime training, something that constitutes a precedent that is the first of its kind in the domain of the specialized maritime training in the State of Qatar, which comes within the framework of its compliance with the international charter on the standards of training and qualifying seafarers issued by International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Ministry also viewed this charter as one of the most important main charters issued by IMO, and this charter has greatly contributed to training maritime transport workers, in a manner that ensures the safety of working in the seas. Moreover, this charter has set first main conditions for training, qualifying and shifting of sailors at the international level. In addition, the charter has contributed to upgrading the level of the main conditions for training and qualifying to ensure the safety of lives, possessions and maritime environment.
