The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has announced launching a seasonal flu vaccination campaign in 27 governmental health centers and 44 healthcare facilities in the State of Qatar, which targets 500,000 people in the State. This is in coordination and collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), as well as a number of partners in the private health sector.

During a joint news conference in the presence of representatives from MOPH, HMC and PHCC, MOPH stressed the necessity of the seasonal flu vaccination. This is in order to ease the burden on the health sector, and alleviate the severity of its accompanying symptoms that are very similar to the symptoms of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), with a slight difference that may include the smell loss when infected with Coronavirus.

During the news conference that has been recently held at Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City, Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Head of the Infectious Diseases Division at HMC, has urged members of the Qatari community not to underestimate the prevention of the seasonal flu, since its impacts are not different from the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). He pointed out that so far, there have been no scientific studies showing the risk of infection with the seasonal flu and Coronavirus together, but it is certain that consequences are severe.
