Hukoomi wins Arab e-Content Award
Qatar’s national government portal, Hukoomi (www.gov.qa), has won a prestigious international award for best government electronic content in the Arab region.
“We feel delighted and honored to have won the Arab e-Content Award,” said Hassan Al-Sayed, Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR), who visited Bahrain to accepted the award on May 17.
“We’ve been working very hard to make Hukoomi a convenient and reliable one-stop shop for government services and information. Winning this award marks our commitment to making government more transparent and accessible for all.”
The Arab e-Content Award is a subsidiary of the World Summit Award (WSA), which was launched as part of the United Nations Summit on the Information Society to recognize the best and most creative e-content in the world.
More than 470 entries from 140 countries vied for the WSA this year. The WSA Grand Jury 2011 – comprising prominent multimedia and e-content experts from 32 countries – met in Hong Kong in April to evaluate the nominees.
Hukoomi was chosen as an example of “outstanding e-content” from the Arab region, winning the award in the category of “e-Government and Institutions” for best practice of high quality e-content.
Since its inception in 2008, Hukoomi has undergone several transformations – the latest being its complete redesign in 2010.
The portal is home to hundreds of services, including 97 e-services that can be completed from start to finish on the computer. Examples include bill payments, Smart Card services, travel visas and permits and more. Visitors can also find government news, a complete listing of events, directories and close to 100 detailed topic articles about Qatar.
A simplified, mobile version of Hukoomi is also accessible through a downloadable mobile app or through any mobile browser. Hukoomi is also accessible through www.hukoomi.qa, and Arabic web addresses حكومي.قطر/ حكومة.قطر .
In addition, Hukoomi’s interactive features include a 24-hour Contact Center hotline and Live Chat for troubleshooting, an online poll, and presence on Twitter (@HukoomiQatar), Facebook and YouTube.
“Hukoomi gives people access to government in multiple ways, whether the end user is a resident, citizen, visitor or businessperson,” said Al-Sayed.
“We’ll continue to improve our portal, as Qatar moves toward a knowledge-based economy,” he said.
