The education policy in Qatar is committed to respecting the heritage and conservative nature of Qatari society. It aims to enhance development of school curricula and educational systems in line with the achievements of the times, the latest technological developments and modern educational experiments.
For this, the Supreme Education Council (SEC) was established by Emiri decree #37 in November 2002 to direct the nation’s education policy. It plays an integral role in the development and implementation of the education reform effort, including the work of the Institutes described below that are directly responsible for the reform’s success: The Education Institute The Education Institute oversees and supports the Independent Schools.
There are 72 independent schools in the State of Qatar.
The Evaluation Institute The Evaluation Institute develops and conducts testing of students, monitors student learning and evaluates school performance.
The Higher Education Institute The Higher Education Institute advises individuals about career options and opportunities for higher education in Qatar and abroad, and administers scholarships and grants.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, on the other hand, is responsible for all matters related to public education and its official institutions with regards to administration, planning, financing, preparation and development. The Ministry lays down detailed regulations determining all authority and specialisations of its administrative and technical bodies and provides them with the necessary financial and moral support to undertake their tasks.
Today, There are 72 independent schools in Qatar under the umbrella of the Supreme Education Council as well as The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Arabic and foreign schools.
